I know you know what I’m talking about. Whether you’re a writer by choice or a writer by trade, at one time during your career, you’ve experienced the dreaded disease or been plagued with the common symptoms of the illness that is commonly known as writer’s block. It’s alright. It’s happened to the best of us. Sometimes it occurs more than we’d like to admit; however, just because you’re experiencing a bump in the road does not mean you should throw in the towel. There are ways to overcome your writer’s block. Give it the 1,000 yard stare and crush it in the palm of your hand.

Or, if that’s too intense, you can follow these quick tips (along with our last six) to help yourself get back on track!

Five More Tips to Power Through Writer’s Block

  1. There is never a perfect time to write. Don’t be picky. You have to come to terms with the fact that you can’t sit in a small coffee shop in Paris while munching on a macaron in order to make that important call to the “muse” in your head. Unfortunately, your cubicle must suffice.
  2. A little writing is better than no writing at all. So, write a little. It’s usually ideal to stick with a piece, an article, or a blog until it’s finished, right? Not always. There’s a difference between quality writing and writer’s block writing. Sometimes, you just have to accept that you can’t summon your creative self to aid you in your writing endeavors. Sometimes she sleeps in. When these days find their way into your schedule, don’t force it too much. Do what you can and then return to it later. After a few hours of rest, you’ll come to the keyboard with a different perspective.
  3. Inspiration is nice, but isn’t always available. When you’re a content writer, you generally write about similar topics on a daily basis. Although monotony can be the devil, learn to change it up with the bit of leeway you’ve been given. You can’t depend on inspiration when you’re a content writer; however, you can depend on yourself.
  4. Don’t try to write everything at once. Find the top few tasks or pieces that are a priority, lay them out, and get to work. Remember that you’re no superhero. Take it one step at a time to avoid being overwhelmed.
  5. Finally, there’s no need to dwell on your writer’s block. Every time you’re stuck in a rut, you can learn something about yourself. Figure out what it taught you, shove it in your back pocket for safe keeping, and move on. You’ll become a better writer when you discover the way that you, as an individual writer, can cope with and overcome writer’s block. Don’t waste time thinking about the time you’ve wasted. Get back to the keyboard and never stop writing.
