When it’s the most wonderful time of the year and your digital marketing efforts are turned up to eleven it’s important to take a step back and make sure all your ducks are in a row.

Here are some simple digital marketing dos and don’ts to help you close out the year strong.

Do…

  • Create consistent messaging and branding across all online assets. Update banners, profiles, and relevant web pages to match your business’s holiday promotions.
  • Let customers know about current or upcoming deals and specials via email, social, and your website.
  • Test your website and/or landing pages for mobile friendliness. More and more people are doing their shopping and research on-the-go.
  • Move in-demand products and services to the forefront of your navigation or product menus. Make it easy for people to find what they are looking for.
  • Make sure your business listings, like Google Maps, Yelp, and YellowPages, are completely filled out and properly optimized. Check the phone number, make sure there’s a link to your website, fill out the category section, and update the hours of operation if they’ve changed for the holidays.

Don’t…

  • Don’t wait until the last minute; some holiday shoppers start as early as September.
  • Don’t rely on one method of advertising. When has putting all of your eggs in one basket ever worked? (Not counting Easter egg hunts of course.) SEO, paid search, and email make quite the combo.
  • Don’t assume everything’s A-OK with your website. Check your contact forms, live chat, and any other avenues a shopper may use to contact you.
  • Don’t forget about video. According to Google, 1 in 4 shoppers say online videos play a role in their gift brainstorming and buying process.
  • Don’t underestimate the power of Pinterest, it’s one of the top social networks for gift inspiration. Plus, the Pinterest app now offers a ‘buy it’ button feature for applicable pins.
